Raised near the iron-rich red soils of Minas Gerais, Da Silva studied in São Paulo and established his European studio in Lisbon’s Alfama quarter. His paintings incorporate raw volcanic minerals, beeswax encaustics, and unrefined pigments gathered from quarries across the Atlantic basin. His canvases are celebrated for their sculptural three-dimensionality and raw earthen warmth.
